Want some new healthy snack ideas? I’m craving something…something, something. Does this happen to you? Of course it does. The question is, what can you snack on that won’t bloat the belly or build the bulge?  I generally wind up wandering back and forth through the kitchen, opening each cupboard twice and stalling in the open refrigerator if not prepared. Oh sigh…

Snacking is easy. Snacking healthy is a bitch – lol! Well it is; I think it is anyway…sometimes. Coming up with healthy snack ideas isn’t easy, that’s for sure. If I’m craving something salty, I immediately want chips – potato chips, tortilla chips, pita chips. I love chips.  It’s like I have an automatic “chips switch” that flips when I crave salt. My problem is that the switch doesn’t have an off side… If a sweeter craving comes along, I’m looking for candy – Almond Joy, M&M’s , and my all-time favorite, Mallow Cups. I don’t need a ton of candy, but even some candy adds up fast in calories.

Getting past the chips and candy is tough. Having some healthier salty/sweet versions on hand front and center waiting for me does the trick. I practically have to put up flags saying, “Look Here! I’m good! Eat Me!” to snap me out of my wandering, shopping, chips and candy trance. As for the chips and candy, I leave them at the grocery store (if I want them bad enough, I have to make the trip).

So what do I decide on finally? Where are all my goody flags a flyin? I made a small list of my salty, sweet, and even savory healthy snack ideas that may save you from the zombie-like snack shopping too…

I don’t know how many times I’ve circled the kitchen whining to Randy, “I just don’t know what I want, but I need a little something.” Definitely, keeping our kitchen stocked with a variety of these healthier snack versions works to combat specific cravings. It’s much easier planning ahead for the cravings having snacks on hand vs. trying to figure out what to treat my cravings to at the last minute. I always wind up in a bad situation in the last minute which usually = pig out session. 🙂

The next time you’re out shopping, pick up a few healthy snack ideas here to have on hand for satisfying cravings ahead of time. You’ll be one up on yourself and more in charge of your diet.
